The adorable baby pygmy hippo, Moo Deng, has captured the hearts of visitors at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi, Thailand. Born in July 2024, Moo Deng became an internet sensation, drawing thousands of tourists eager to see her playful antics. Her popularity surged due to cute videos and photos shared on social media, and during peak weekends, visitor numbers skyrocketed from around 2,000 to over 15,000.
Zoo director Attaporn Sriheran noted that Moo Deng’s charm may last for another three months before her growth diminishes her baby appeal. To sustain interest, the zoo is planning to promote other animals once Moo Deng fever subsides, though specifics remain undisclosed.
This new wave of attention has not only boosted zoo attendance but also prompted measures to protect Moo Deng from overzealous fans, such as installing cameras to prevent harassment. The zoo’s proactive steps ensure the baby hippo remains healthy and safe while she continues to charm audiences worldwide.
