A Taiwanese company, Gold Apollo, has tried to distance itself from reports that pagers bearing its brand were used in recent attacks in Lebanon. These pagers were reportedly used by Hezbollah fighters, possibly as part of remote detonation systems. However, Gold Apollo claims that the pagers involved were actually manufactured by a European company licensed to use their brand, and that they had no direct involvement in the incident. The company expressed embarrassment over the situation, emphasizing that they were victims in this scenario, as their brand was only used under license.
The use of these devices by Hezbollah has fueled tensions in the region, with the Lebanese group blaming Israel for the attacks and vowing retaliation. Hezbollah, which regularly employs such pagers for communication, declared that Israel would face consequences for what they termed an act of aggression.
This situation has brought further scrutiny to the use of commercial technology in military conflicts, and companies like Gold Apollo are keen to clarify their non-involvement.
