The 2024 Jammu & Kashmir election results have delivered a significant blow to the Congress party. Once holding 12 seats in the region, their influence has plummeted, securing just 6 seats with around 12% of the vote. In contrast, the National Conference (NC) emerged as the largest party, capitalizing on the decline of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surged to become the second-largest party with 24-34 seats.
Despite the Congress-NC alliance’s lead, they may fall short of a majority, potentially leaving the PDP as a deciding factor in forming a government. This election marks a major setback for Congress as the BJP continues to gain ground in the region.
