Hindenburg Research, a well-known U.S. firm specializing in activist short-selling, has announced its closure. Established in 2017 by Nate Anderson, the firm gained fame for exposing alleged corporate fraud, causing significant stock market impacts on the companies it targeted.
One of its most high-profile cases was against India’s Adani Group, which Hindenburg accused of stock manipulation and accounting fraud, leading to a massive loss in the group’s market value. Another notable target was Nikola Corporation, an electric vehicle manufacturer accused of misleading investors about its technology. This resulted in fraud charges against the company’s founder.
In his statement, Anderson cited personal reasons for shutting down the firm, expressing a desire to focus on his personal life and health. He also announced plans to share Hindenburg’s investigative techniques publicly in the coming months.
Over its tenure, Hindenburg’s investigations led to regulatory actions against nearly 100 individuals. The firm’s closure marks the end of an era in the world of financial activism and short-selling.
