Ambuja Cements, one of India’s top cement players, has recently acquired a major stake in Orient Cement, valuing the deal at ₹8,100 crore. The acquisition marks a significant expansion for Ambuja in the competitive cement sector, enhancing its market share and capacity. Legal firms Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) and Khaitan & Co. played pivotal roles in this transaction, advising on various aspects, including due diligence, financing, and regulatory compliance.
This acquisition comes amidst Ambuja’s aggressive growth strategy to nearly double its production capacity in the coming years. It further strengthens Ambuja’s presence in the southern region of India, a key market, where rivals like UltraTech Cement also seek dominance.
The strategic move aligns with the Adani Group’s broader ambitions to consolidate its cement holdings, following its earlier acquisition of ACC Cement.
