Pakistan struggled early after opting to bat, with Sri Lanka’s bowlers, including Sugandika Kumari, quickly removing both openers. Athapaththu’s triple strike further damaged Pakistan, dismissing Sidra Amin and causing more collapses in the middle order. By the 15th over, Pakistan was reduced to 84/8.
Athapaththu’s excellent figures of 3 wickets for 13 runs, along with Kumari’s contributions, kept Pakistan under pressure throughout the innings. Pakistan’s captain Fatima Sana, despite winning the toss, couldn’t mount a strong total against Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling attack.
