The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has undergone a leadership change with Devajit Saikia being elected as the new Secretary. He replaces Jay Shah, who recently assumed the role of ICC Chairman. Alongside, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia has been appointed as the BCCI Treasurer, succeeding Ashish Shelar, who joined the Maharashtra government as a cabinet minister.
Saikia, a former first-class cricketer from Assam, has previously served as the BCCI Joint Secretary and acted as the Interim Secretary following Jay Shah’s transition to the ICC. Both Saikia and Bhatia were unanimously elected during the BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM) held in Mumbai.
Bhatia, associated with the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh (CSCS), has also been a member of the BCCI Apex Council. His election as Treasurer was confirmed unanimously during the meeting.
With these appointments, a new chapter begins in the administration of the BCCI. The cricketing community anticipates that the experience and expertise of Saikia and Bhatia will contribute positively to the governance of Indian cricket.
