The match, held at the luxurious Resorts World Sentosa, spanned 14 classical games, with Gukesh achieving the decisive 7.5 points. His sharp tactics and strategic brilliance throughout the match earned him the title and a major share of the $2.5 million prize fund. Ding, despite his rich chess legacy, could not overcome Gukesh’s exceptional form.
This landmark achievement places Gukesh in the global spotlight, following his dominant performance in the Candidates Tournament earlier this year. With a FIDE rating of 2783, the young prodigy has now joined the ranks of chess legends.
