In a significant development regarding the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed the Supreme Court that the crime scene had been tampered with. The CBI emphasized that the victim’s family was misled, initially being told the death was a suicide. They raised concerns over delays in filing the First Information Report (FIR), which only occurred after the victim’s cremation.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI, stressed that these lapses, including changes to the crime scene, complicate the investigation. The accused, Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, remains under investigation, with further forensic tests pending. The Supreme Court continues to review the handling of the case by local authorities, highlighting the need for swift and thorough justice.
