IRCTC has discontinued its compensation scheme for delays in private trains as of February 15, 2024. This information was revealed through a Right to Information (RTI) query. Under this scheme, passengers were compensated a total of ₹26 lakh between October 4, 2019, and February 16, 2024.
However, IRCTC has not disclosed the reasons for ending this scheme. Previously, passengers of the New Delhi-Lucknow and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas Express trains were eligible for compensation in case of delays. Now, no compensation will be provided for delays in these trains.
If a train is canceled, IRCTC ensures a full refund of the fare. In case of delays, passengers are provided with food and water facilities.

IRCTC ने निजी ट्रेनों की देरी पर यात्रियों को मुआवजा देने की योजना 15 फरवरी 2024 से बंद कर दी है। यह जानकारी सूचना के अधिकार (RTI) के तहत प्राप्त हुई। इस योजना के तहत, 4 अक्टूबर 2019 से 16 फरवरी 2024 तक यात्रियों को कुल 26 लाख रुपये का मुआवजा दिया गया था।
हालांकि, IRCTC ने इस योजना को बंद करने के कारणों को साझा नहीं किया। इससे पहले, नई दिल्ली-लखनऊ और अहमदाबाद-मुंबई तेजस एक्सप्रेस ट्रेनों में देरी होने पर यात्रियों को मुआवजा दिया जाता था। अब इन ट्रेनों में देरी होने पर मुआवजा नहीं मिलेगा।
यदि ट्रेन रद्द होती है, तो IRCTC पूरा किराया वापस करता है। वहीं, ट्रेन के विलंबित होने पर यात्रियों को भोजन और पानी की सुविधा दी जाती है।
