Surekha linked their split to Bharat Raksha Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao (KTR), sparking outrage. Samantha, Naga Chaitanya, and his father, Nagarjuna, condemned the comments, calling them “ridiculous” and “unacceptable.” Samantha urged the minister to respect their privacy, while Nagarjuna asked her not to use their personal lives for political purposes.
After receiving widespread criticism, including from South Indian stars like Junior NTR and Nani, Surekha issued an apology. She clarified that her intent was not to offend but to highlight KTR’s alleged treatment of women. She retracted her statement unconditionally after facing legal action threats from KTR.

विवाद बढ़ने के बाद, जिसमें जूनियर एनटीआर और नानी जैसे सितारे भी शामिल थे, सुरेखा ने माफी जारी की। उन्होंने स्पष्ट किया कि उनका उद्देश्य किसी की भावनाओं को आहत करना नहीं था, बल्कि KTR के महिलाओं के प्रति कथित रवैये पर सवाल उठाना था। सुरेखा ने बिना शर्त अपने बयान को वापस ले लिया और कानूनी कार्रवाई की धमकी के बाद माफी मांगी।
