Following the appointment of Atishi as the Chief Minister of Delhi, a similar demand for a female Chief Minister is rising in Punjab. Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Pratap Singh Bajwa, recently remarked that just as Delhi now has a female CM, Punjab too needs female leadership. There are several political reasons behind this demand:
Focus on the Female Vote Bank: Women constitute a strong voter base in Punjab. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already launched several women-centric schemes in the past. The demand for a female Chief Minister could be a strategic move to consolidate this vote bank and strengthen support among women voters.
Opposition’s Strategy: Bajwa’s statement is seen as a tactic by the Congress to pressurize the AAP. If AAP appoints a female CM in Punjab, the credit might go to Congress for pushing the issue. However, if the party does not act on this, they could face criticism for being anti-women.
This growing demand could lead to new political dynamics in Punjab.

दिल्ली में आतिशी को मुख्यमंत्री बनाए जाने के बाद अब पंजाब में भी महिला मुख्यमंत्री की मांग तेज हो गई है। पंजाब विधानसभा में विपक्ष के नेता प्रताप सिंह बाजवा ने कहा कि जैसे दिल्ली में महिला सीएम बनी, वैसे ही पंजाब को भी महिला नेतृत्व की जरूरत है। इसके पीछे कई राजनीतिक कारण हैं:
- महिला वोट बैंक का महत्व: पंजाब में महिलाओं का बड़ा मतदाता समूह है। आम आदमी पार्टी (AAP) ने पहले भी महिला वोटरों को ध्यान में रखते हुए योजनाएं बनाई थीं। महिला मुख्यमंत्री की मांग इसी वोट बैंक को मजबूत करने के लिए की जा रही है।
- विपक्ष की राजनीतिक चाल: बाजवा की इस मांग को कांग्रेस की रणनीति माना जा सकता है ताकि AAP पर दबाव बनाया जा सके। अगर AAP पंजाब में महिला मुख्यमंत्री बनाती है तो इसका श्रेय कांग्रेस को मिलेगा, और यदि नहीं बनाती, तो उन पर महिला विरोधी होने का आरोप लग सकता है।
इससे पंजाब की राजनीति में नए समीकरण बनने की संभावना है।
